Why cats age fast, then slow

Cats reach adulthood within their first year or two, so those early years count for far more than later ones. After about age two, aging settles to roughly four human years per cat year. Knowing your cat's life stage helps you watch for the conditions that become more common as they get older, since cats are good at hiding pain and illness.
